Hello everybody, this is my first post, so I hope you'll be kind to me if I make some mistake. Since long time I was searching for HvK's Bruckner's 8th last performance, in New York with Wiener Philharmoniker just a few months before his passing. Eventually, I found it here at rarebroadcasts, a site which was mentioned in an earlier post in this forum, about a totally different issue. Being a newbie, my problem now is that ... I'm not able to understand how to purchase that single (as well as others) cd: can anybody please help me in this, or share his/her experience with that site and/or recordings? There are many others of our Maestro... Many thanks in advance! |

Some most moving recollections of the 1989 Carnegie Hall Bruckner 8 by colleagues involved in the performance were included in John Bridcut’s BBC documentary. I’ve been unable to locate the film on YOUTUBE although of course I could have missed it. However, the whole documentary is now available on the Chinese video site TUDOU. As lohengrin, I am very interested in the Karajan catalogue in rarebroadcasts, but don't know how to order (no prices are quoted, and there are no links to order). I would also like to get some help, if possible, on purchasing items from rarebroadcasts

I have to say I was marginally disappointed with the Vienna PO recording of the Bruckner VIII - I much prefer the Berlin version from the 1970's - but I have to say what I have heard from the live performance from New York (on the BBC4 Karajan documentary) sounded sensational. LD |

For me the best part of the 1975 BPO Bruckner 8 is the 3rd movement. Overall I think the brass is less well recorded than the late VPO version; also, there is a trumpet problem in the finale coda.

I agree with you that the later digital recording "opens up" the sound more, particularly benefiting the brass, but I find the Berlin PO to be a more powerful orchestra than their counterparts in Vienna which I feel makes the strongest case for Karajan's interpretation of the work. In this regard, I find the Adagio better in the Vienna account !! How strange - and wonderful ! - that we can all appreciate different facets of a performance ! LD |

Hi, I am also looking for the Feb 1989 Carnegie Hall concert of Herbert von Karajan Bruckner 8 performance. I attended the concert and the sound still stuck firmly in my heart today.
can someone help me find this recording please.
