Thanks John. I am so pleased to have seen that video, including some of the rehearsal in Carnegie Hall.

Thanks also from me John. This has prompted me to include some extracts from previous postings relating to this acclaimed performance. Some recollections of this 1989 Carnegie Hall Bruckner 8 by colleagues involved in the performance were included in John Bridcut’s BBC documentary, Karajan’s Magic and Myth. We hear moving accounts from Clemens Hellsberg, VPO Violinist; Günther Breest of Deutsche Grammophon and Placido Domingdo. I’ve been unable to locate the film on YOUTUBE although of course I could have missed it. However, the whole documentary is now available on the Chinese video site TUDOU. The references start at around 74 minutes. Be prepared initially for a minute or so of adverts. WEBROOT on my PC indicates that the site is trustworthy. www.tudou.com/programs/view/6-3rl8cZl0UThere’s also available a review which appeared in The New York Times a couple of days after the performance - worth reading. www.nytimes.com/1989/02/28/arts/review-music-karajan-leads-vienna-in-heroic-bruckner-8th.htmlRegards David

Thank you very much indeed, John: I'm always hoping to find more documents about those fabled Carnegie Hall concerts, but I didn't know this particular video so far. The short footage of the 4th movement's coda rehearsal is thrilling. Thanks again

Interestingly, when I stand on the front-room pouffe with my knitting needle (or local Chinese plastic chop-stick, my gestures are uncannily the same as vK's!!)
