Incidentally, is the Tchaikovsky Pianoi Concerto, which Karajan conducted with Evgeny Kissin, available on DVD? It seems to have vanished from Amazon etc here in the UK. Perhaps it's sold out and they're awaiting new supplies. Hope so. Thanks for your excellent post, Roger. It looks as though your guess about the Karajan/Kissin DVD is correct. It's listed here for re-release in Germany next week. The items in this new series are said to be embellished with reprocessed audio (Linda has given details of this on the website's Centenary 2008 page). Presumably releases in the UK and other countries will follow soon.

Hopefully, it is now up to date with the details of the forthcoming releases in this series: www.karajan.co.uk/centenary.htmlLinda

If you believe some critics Karajan was the only musician to make mistakes, while everyone else was perfect! Artists need to experiment. It's not a crime to fail. People learn from their mistakes. Vaughan Williams pointed out that some composers are remembered for only one piece of music. Yet they needed to write masses of inferior music to be able to produce that one magic piece. The trouble with some critics is that they have little understanding of the creative process. They seem to think everything has to be perfect, or the artist is rubbish. Well, I hope they start examining Karajan's recordings again. Unless they're cloth-eared they'll be in for an enjoyable experience. Roger, is your post a reply to what I had written? I cannot understand. I'll try to explain me better. ******************************************************************************Making known the views is part of our task. Enrico Girardi takes care of history of music, he doesn't belong to part of the critics excessive. However, usually I'm very attentive do not absorb comment of the experts or regardered as such. Sorry if I didn't well expressed. I wrote that comment just because I liked! ******************************************************************************I take the unfortunate opportunity to say a few words about Gioacchino Rossini. The great composer, said "the Absolute", was born in Pesaro, a few kilometres from my town. Conducting Rossini's Opera is particularly difficult. Not all conductors of Orchestra are prepared to confront the works of the great composer. There are great Maestros studying the art of conducting Rossini's masterpiece. The M* Alberto Zedda ( Rossini Opera Festival) is an example illustrious. Karajan, as is his practice, has studied deeply the Rossini's scores, and probably away effortlessly from his canons of interpretation, is able to perform an Overture by Guglielmo Tell, very exciting. In fact, I heard sound to me alien but certainly enjoyable. These are details of interpretation, whose outcome surprised me and fascinated me. Rosy
