Hello halcover1 Thank you for your good wishes! I read your post about the fire in the Philharmonie and had a look on the Internet to find any more information: www.nytimes.com/2008/05/21/world/europe/21berlin.html?ref=worldIt is strange that such a catastrophe should happen in Karajan’s centenary year, as I seem to remember reading that part of the ceiling collapsed at the Philharmonie a few months after Karajan’s death in July 1989! By the way, I hope you do not mind but I have renamed this topic: "Philharmonie Fire 20th May 2008" and placed it on the General Board. Linda

I have recently received the Berliner Philharmoniker e-mail Newsletter for June in which reference is made to the latest situation following the fire in the Philharmonie.
I have pasted in the original German narrative followed by a Google translation -
Love music friends and music lovers, dear readers of our newsletter,
after the fire on the roof of the Philharmonic Hall, 20 May and its consequences are well, and the Konzertverlegungen in the Waldbühne and the Hangar 2 of the Airport Tempelhof to a satisfactory end of the concerts have led, we look forward now that the concert business in the Great Hall of the Philharmonic from 2 June without further restrictions can resume. Already on 5, 6 and 7 June, the Philharmonic under the direction of Mariss Jansons returned to their rightful place. The derived from Riga and current chief conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio conducted at these evenings Dmitiri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 6 in B minor, op 54th On the other program is Luciano Berio's Folksongs, transcriptions for mezzo soprano and orchestra, and Maurice Ravel's La Valse. As a soloist this evening to welcome the Philharmonic also from Riga-born mezzo-soprano Elîna Garanèa. These concerts are already sold out.
