I have recently acquired the golden disc awarded Karajan on his 75th birthday by Deutsche Grammophon. Can anyone tell me anything about this award or give me any insight about it's authenticity.

Thanks for your help Rosy but I am inquiring about the actual award itself. He was given an award on his 75th birthday. It was a golden record from his recording company and it is this that I am curious about.

Welcome to the Forum!
Since I saw your post yesterday I have been trying to find out more about this Golden Disc that was issued to celebrate Karajan's 75th birthday in April 1983.
Deutsche Grammophon in their Press releases refer only to the fact that on his birthday “Deutsche Grammophon Production honours the Maestro with the publication of a richly illustrated book; Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft honours him with a Golden Record.” I was hoping to find some photographs but, as yet, have not been able to find anything.
I wonder if it would be possible for you to post a photograph on the Forum of the disc you now own? If you have any difficulties then you can refer to “How to insert images in to postings” which is on the “Forum News and Announcements” Board.

Hello kopper I have just been looking through my archive of Karajan information and found that in October 2001 there was an auction on Ebay for a 24 carat gold record of Beethoven Symphony No 5 with the B.P.O. As you can see, it was in a blue box with an inscription inside the lid which unfortunately I cannot read. Is this like the one you own? Best wishes Linda |

Hi Linda. Thanks for your interest. I did manage to find the information that you posted. Hopefully there is something more out there related to this topic. The award that I have is a golden record with an image of HVK and an orcestra in the center. This is mounted in a frame to hang on a wall. I will post some pics. My biggest curiosity is how these items got released from the Karajan family and if they are authentic.
