It was sad to hear of the recent death of Peter Glossop the famous baritone. He appears in the Karajan films of Otello and Pagliacci. I did have the pleasure of seeing him live once at Covent Garden as Scarpia in Tosca. I have always enjoyed his singing but for me his acting in opera was totally involved, it was dramatic as well as fasinating, alongside Jon Vickers they were a formidable pair. We know that Karajan was a brilliant opera conducter, however he was also a wonderful director and I have always been fasinated by the amount of time he appears to have spent with the singers, not just on the musical content but with their actions and movements on stage and how they should convey the drama to maximum effect. I have selected a number of photo's for Forum members to enjoy of Karajan in his opera directing role. John.

Hi John! Wonderful idea! I always thought ( I am not alone in thinking this) that Karajan is also a great actor, isn't it? ******************************** He would been a great actor of prose. He had a very expressive face and knew how to move well on the stage; I like particularly the second and the last photo. The penultimate is very nice! Thank you Rosy
