Cardinal Ratzinger and Master Karajan, met in an old inn of monastery of Maria Eck , in bavaria; They talked of Music, holiday and the "passing of the seasons". The Maestro loved to retire in that place where peace reigned, various' time to unwind, after the" tour de force" of the Salzburg Festival..

Yes, I can well imagine Cardinal Ratzinger and von Karajan getting along. In many ways, their efforts seem so similar -- both defending the most sublime traditions of Western culture against a hostile modern world that seeks to diminish, pervert, or dismantle it; both looking to the future and to the past, and building bridges linking the two eras across the chasm of modernity. "Cultural warriors" both, and with a profound sense of mission about their work. I find their efforts similarly noble.
