.........as an eagle flying high in the sky...............
I'd like to tell you Mariss Jansons's story (look at Lee's post in"The Art of Karajan "), with more details, because it's much more sweet:
When Heribert Ritter von Karajan was a child of six years old, is meeting a group of masked musicians (" Flinserln " ),because it was Carnival. " Flinserln " are characters of Carnival, a melange of characters of the " Italian Comedy Art " and " Pickelherring ", British Buffoons. Heribert was with his father and his brother. They stopped to listen to the music. They were fascinated.
Then, came the " Trommelweiber ", disguised as woman who played the drums; a violinist wanted to try to play with them, which they chased away.
Heribert said to his father: " Don't ever I will be a violinist, I prefear playing the drum!!! ".
In fact, many years later, he lerned to play that instrument!
At the end of his life reappered violinist of his childwood, whose memory had brought with him all his life!
" The Death is not only the Death of the soul, it's also the Death of the instrument with which he had played;
....leaved the body and hovers in the air like an EAGLE.
Nothing will lost!! "
****************************************************
"A life without MUSIC would be inconceivable "

Dear Rosy
Thank you for this amazing anecdote. Could you tell me where I could find out more about it? Is there any record of von Karajan telling this story? Where does Mariss Janson tell this story?
Thank you so much for your help!
Very best wishes
