I have just contacted the Eliette and Herbert von Karajan Institute about the book, "Mein Leben an seiner Seite" and have been told that currently (May 2008) there are no plans to translate Eliette von Karajan's book into English.

I'm sorry! In its simplicity's sake, is a good book that I've read with pleasure; I would have welcomed a deepening about the methods of carrying out the film; it's really an interesting topic: she was always present on the set, and then knew all the "secrets"... Mrs Eliette arises as a friend who tells her fairy tale....and that fairy tale!!! However I write an article dedicated to this book and of course, I tell the salient facts or curiosity ******************************************************************************* Rosy

....in truth I was a little biased. And then..
The book is lovely because it's written by his wife. Because she telling their life together, so simple and direct like when you confident with a friend of you. The setting is like a novel. Rightely there are few references to the years preceding their meeting and only if it needs to understand the facts or situations. Someone wrote that Eliette has glissato = avoied on certain topics. In my opinin, considerating that there are several books that deal extensively with these issues; Eliette was right not to enter into territories already routes. The book is beautiful precisely because it's simple, it's not an essay on music or musical interpretation, even if Eliette leads us to hand in the world of her husband. Karajan wanted absolutely that she was present at all rehearsals, because then, at home, they discussed the outcome. Eliette is good at describing the situations, in fact, sometimes seems to be with them, it seems to hear the voice of Herbert or see his eyes full of expressions. There recounts moments that belonged only to them, but describes in detail the last moment of Herbert's life. I felt pain in my heart and had tears in my eyes when I read those words. Love, pain, sweetness, disbelief.....all the felings that every human being feels before death. So it was for Eliette....
