Universal Music Japan will be releasing several Symphony BOX sets via SHM-CD. Among them, Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Bruckner, Mahler, Schumann, Tchaikovsky and Haydn. In addition, Wagner's Ring comes available. An SHM-CD is made from a newly developed material and to archive better sound quality. www.universal-music.co.jp/classics/release/karajan2008/karajan_symphony.html

These sets are looking great! But I can't understand the last sentence... Is there any difference in the sound quality between these releases and the orginal DG ones? I am just curious because I have only the set with Tchaikovsky's symphonies and I don't know if Mozart's, Bruckner's, or Mendelssohn's sets (which I really do want to buy in not so distant future) are still available in the original DG editions. So I might be interested in buying some of these releases. If anybody has already listened to both releases of one set or has some other information, could he/she share his opinion about the sound quality? I will highly appreciate it. Hello, I am sorry to say that I have not listened to the CD made from the SHM (Super High Material). Universal Music Japan insists the excellence sound quality. I have read some blog/web articles about the SHM-CD. Some told that it is better than the ordinary CD. Some did there are no significant difference between them. Some insisted that it is inferior to an SACD. As a conclusion, it is the only right way for whom it may concern to check them for themselves.
