A number of websites are now reporting that the 1978 Silvesterkonzert will be released on DVD by DG in Europe on 31 August. No extras, apparently, because www.hmv.co.jp gives the following information: Edit: I'm delighted to see that when I posted the above, the forum automatically censored the title of Berlioz's work!

Well spotted K620 - I was wondering the other day if the material from this concert was ever going to appear on DVD, although I agree that on its own it does appear to be rather short measure (wonder if the Die Meistersinger Overture taped around this time could join it?). Thanks for letting us all know.
And as for the Forum censoring Berlioz' title, how d**nably annoying !!

ps yes, I was censored too!

Hi everyone
Have you noticed that this new release also includes the 'additional' 60 mins portrait by Vojtec Jasny? This also appears on the previous DVD release earlier this year 'Karajan in Concert'. Surely DG could have found some different material from the archives, a bit dissapointing I think.
It's a shame they did not televise the concert the following day 1-1-79 as this included Gounod's ballet suite Faust, Chabrier's Espana and the Manon Lescaut Overture.

John Hello John, Yes, that documentary is among the best (fortuntely) Yes it's a shame........the wonderful Manon Leascau Overture! Karajan conducted G. Puccini like few conductors, because he listened to collegues italians interpretations carefully( especially M° Tullio Serafin) °°° °°° °°° °°° Rosy
