Dear John, I have been tied up over the last few days and I missed your posting.
Thank you so much for taking the trouble to look into this matter for us all.
Such a shame that there will not be a reprint of the register.
I would love a photo-copy and it's very kind of you to offer this. I will email you as outlined in your posting.
Many thanks
Stuart

Hello John! Even I thank you has already done Stuart. I ask myself why a book so important- especially for Karajan's admirers- is not to be reprinted. I would like to have photocopies, ; but is it possible that there are no copies in the stores? ********************** Thank you very much, John, for taken this trouble to make us happy!!! Rosy

Oh yes, a better presentation, as you say, and ease to find various contents, would be greatly appreciated! Karajan was very simpe tastes for what concerned himself, but when he gave to others, he certainly was not economic! ****************************** Rosy

Hi Alexander
Yes, the presentation of the Philharmonic Autocrat isn't as lavish as perhaps one would like, but then it probably wouldn't ever be. It is my understanding that books of this highly specialised nature are never going to be money spinners for publishing houses and indeed, it is a labour of love on the part of its compiler John Hunt - who occasionally contributes to this website and forum - that it has made it to print at all. He has produced a number of discographies and concert registers on conductors as diverse as Furtwangler and Solti, all of which have added immeasurable to our knowledge of these artists. Indeed, I was wondering if your volume, like my own, earlier edition contains the Concert Register too, one of the most fascinating items I have seen on HvK ? That John Hunt has made much money, if any at all, from these enterprises, I doubt, but I for one am grateful that he has seen fit to share his research with us all and so am prepared to overlook the less than lavish presentation, which I hope you will soon get used to.
Warmest regards, Lee

Hi Alexander
I cannot recommend the Concert Register highly enough - any Karajan aficionado absolutely MUST have this in their collection, it really is amazing what he conducted that didn't make it into the studio. If you scroll further up this thread you will see a posting by John Hooper, a friend of John Hunt - I know that he would be able to do something for you in this area.
As for the Mozart Requiem, there is a Telemondial DVD of this work on Sony, the same performance that was released by DG Digital with the Vienna Philharmonic. It is available in Japan and the USA, but has not to my knowledge been released in Europe to date. If you are interested, HMV Japan are a very good source, more expensive than the States, but of course the USA is Region 1 so you can only play discs from there on multi-region players.
Hope this helps,
Lee

Hi Lee,
Wow - K did Egmont complete? Can you tell me more?
Hi Everyone,
Is the data in "Concert Register" the same as that on karajan.org?
Thanks.

Hi Tjh
Yes, K did do the complete Egmont incidental music. It was recorded for DG in 1969 and featured Janowitz. That said, critical acclaim has largely favoured Georg Szell's recording on Decca over the DG account. In either case, after the Overture, the music hardly shows Beethoven any near his best. If you are keen for a copy, I'm pretty sure you should be able to find a one on Amazon.
As far as I am aware, the Concert Register was very similar as the one featured on Karajan.org, having been compiled by the same person, John Hunt. However, it is my understanding that Karajan.org's concert register has not been available for some time now.
Hope this helps, Lee

Hi Lee,
Yes. I found the data of the Janowitz Egmont on karajan.org. Thanks!
I particularly like the cellos and timpanis in the Szell.
I have the Theatre Music volume from DG's complete LvB, where you are instructed to program your CD player in order to hear the repeats. What prompted me to buy this was that it contained K's Ritterballet. I am hooked on that theme that keeps coming back.
Speaking of repeats, I think I remember reading in the Gramophone that in K's 1989 Bruckner 8th, the scherzo repeat is copied over from the scherzo beginning on the recording. (Supposedly given away by a noise at the same bar). Can anyone shed light on this claim? I couldn't tell.
