Can anyone help me get hold of a copy of JH's HvK concert register 'Philharmonic Autocrat'?
I have 3 other JH titles but this one seems near-unobtainable.
Obviously, I'd love to read through and get a feel for the programming of the concerts, but also I'd really like to create play-lists in my iPod and laptop etc, based on the concerts!
Thanks in advance

Hi Stuart I spoke to Mr Hunt about this earlier in the year and he directed me to this website: www.vixenrecords.com/foxfox/johnhunt/index.htmHe also said that at the time the concert register was out of stock, although hopefully this has now been rectified. That said, this is an excellent book and can be heartily recommended to all admirers of Karajan's work. After all, does everyone know that HvK conducted Arabella, the Gurreleider and Brtten's War Requiem amongst many other pieces that aren't represented in his discography ?!! Best regards, Lee

Thanks Lee.
I followed your link, but sadly the register is coming up as out of print. Seems my search must continue!
Best wishes,

Best regards, Lee Hello Stuart! Good idea! I hope the book is understandable for me...it's a long time I espect to buy it, I thought it wasn't so easy to find! Thank you, Lee! ****** ****** About R. Strauss's "Arabella", A. Schönberg's "Gurrelieder", it seems to me that Karajan has not performed this work. Have you listen to S. Ozawa interpretation Schönberg's Gurrelieder? ....... It's strange, Karajan called his younger daughter Arabella, in honor of the one of the composer that he preferred, but he not made the Opera!!! Britten's War Requiem, I read something about it; maybe was it in his projects? I also like to know it! RosyP.S. You're very lucky, because you've the essential information sources such as the irreplaceable monumental Karajan's Biography by Richard Osborne, and the Karajan's complete discography by John Hunt!

Hi Rosy
I think that something may have been "lost in translation" between our postings ! Karajan did perform Arabella during his final season in Ulm, in performances that were highly praised. He performed Gurreleider in 1967 with the Berlin PO, and he also programmed the War Requiem in 1964 with the Berliners. My point was, that without the Concert Register, I wouldn't have known this !
Best regards, Lee

Hi Rosie
I think the concert register is still unobtainable. You are right, those other books are so good for we fans.
I am unfamiliar with Strauss's Arabella - I will listen to it one day. I am still discovering so many different things in Salome (Karajan) and Elektra (Bohm).
Today I decided to listen to Karajan's EMI Pelleas & Melisande while I was looking through this website and discovered that today is Debussy's birthday!!
Update, well nearly today (22nd) !!!!!!

Rosy, Stuart and everyone.
I have met with John Hunt and he informs me that the concert register will not be re-printed. However, I am prepared to send a high quality photocopy to any menbers that may be interested.
As this will be a large document I will have to make a charge of £12 this will include the posting cost. Anyone interested should e-mail me at john.hooper@pickfords.com
Payment can be by cheque for those in the UK, however for those overseas pay pal will be prefered.
best regards
John
