I have just been contacted by Andrea Columbini, Artistic Director of the "Puccini e la sua Lucca" Festival, who has kindly made this offer:
"All the members of the Karajan "club" (If I am allowed to call it so...) are invited as our guests to all performances. The only thing they have to do is simply communicating to this *e-mail address the performance/s they are interested into and our Ticket Office will duly put at their disposal complimentary tickets as many as they desire."
*Anyone interested can PM me and I will forward the e-mail address to them.

I have just received the following email from Andrea Colombini: Dear Friends
Just a short note to let you know that the concert we organised for the 100th Birthday of the Maestro, on 5th April, with the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the University of Pisa (one of the finest youth orchestras in Italy) conducted by Francesco Pasqualetti, was a stunning success.
Apart from being THE ONLY OFFICIAL CELEBRATION IN ITALY (not even La Scala produced any event in the memory of a conductor who meant so much for the Milan theatre!!!), the concert had a special guest of Honour: Simonetta Puccini, the grand daughter of Giacomo Puccini and the only leaving heir of the great Lucchese composer.
She received from our Artistic Director, Andrea Colombini, a copy of the last “Tosca” conducted by Karajan with Pavarotti in Salzburg (a copy of which had been kindly given to Colombini by a member and visitor of the site, Mr John Hooper, to whom all our thanks go vividly) and she highly appreciated the event, well agreeing about the fact that Karajan, whom she met in Salzburg in 1988, was no doubt the greatest interpreter of the music of her grandfather.
The last movement of Brahm’s 1st Symphony will be posted on www.youtube.com in two halves during the next 5 days and be available under the name of FESTIVAL DI PASQUA 2008 or PUCCINI E LA SUA LUCCA
We send you some pictures portraying the Church of San Giovanni in Lucca, the orchestra, Simonetta Puccini receiving the gift from Andrea Colombini, Simonetta Puccini, Andrea Colombini and the conductor, Francesco Pasqualetti.
Best regards to all the fans and the www.karajan.co.uk wonderful website. And, once more, VIVA KARAJAN[/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img]

How wonderful, this is a fantastic tribute to Karajan.
Italy is a beautiful country and I hope to visit the Puccini festival next year.
I am overwhelmed that Andrea presented Puccini's grand daughter with a CD copy of the 1989 Salzburg Tosca that I sent him a few months ago.
I am looking forward to seeing Rosy's photo's and report from the La Scala exhibition.

What wonder! I would like to personally thank the Sig. Andrea Colombini for the significant event. I wanted to be here and I hurts my heart when I think what I lost. But the reason that I was retained, it calm me sorrow.

Unfortunately, I've noticed that there is still the wrong date of M° Karajan's birth: 4 April, instead of 5 April!. I hope that it's still a typo! The article is the same as the newsletters. However, there are some photo of the Maestro. Frankly, I'm disappointed that the Teatro alla Scala, didn't consider it to dedicate a concert to a Maestro who has worked many years in the most famous theatre of the world! For the show we must wait for the autumn. We shall see if it is worthy of the Maestro. I love the Teatro alla Scala and I've subscrived for many years , so this shortcoming makes me sad , not controversy. Rosy

Many ways to describe Herbert von Karajan, perhaps all valid, because of his eclectic personality.
******************************************************************************
I read the editorial of the Teatro alla Scala for subscribers. After the news of the Multimedia exhibition dedicated to Herbert von Karajan, it develops the article that describes the work of the Maestro. Mr. Franco Pulcini, begins so: " Herbert von Karajan, a musician for whom it's superfluous to recall the title of conductors of Orchestra, because of his menacing image, which is still engraved in the collective memory: eyes tight (only in absence of singers!)*, rebel tuft (to me doesn't frighten), the body contract (in my opinion he seemed very "soft" movements!), batoon in hand, (like the most conductor)". ****************************************************************************** But where is the note elegance, and fluid gesture of the Austrian conductor?
Then the article goes on to illustrate the work of Karajan between Austria and Italy.
******************************************************************************
*= among the brackets there is my opinion.
