What is your favourite version of the Brahms 4? The one from the 1960s cycle Karajan recorded has been released.

My favourite Fourth is the digital one from 1988 which was released on CD almost 20 years ago and now it is impossible to be found a new copy, only second hand. I just discovered that the digital Fouth is still available as a new, separate issue -- in Japan. Check the following link: www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/2652740Although the cover is identical to the original, note that this is a new release (dated Jan. 2008). It's easy to differentiate from the first release by the fact that it is coupled with the digital Haydn Variations. Originally, the Fourth was a stand-alone recording, while the Haydn Variations were coupled with the digital Second. It's ridiculous that this great recording -- a digital Karajan/Brahms -- could ever have been out of the catalogue. It's nice to see that the Japanese have remedied this unforgivable absence.

Yes, the separated CD issue was released in Japan at a mid price. We can also buy the complete digital Brahms symphonies box set in SHM-CD. www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/2667311
