Hello everyone, You will have to excuse my French on this new thread but frankly I am really very very angry.
So far we have been lucky to have, in this centenary year, some really innovative live publications of unpublished Karajan concerts from Audite, Testament, Orfeo and Melodya.
If you chase around the Internet you will soon discover that:
1/ the ORFEO box has almost completely disappeared; 2/ the "Karajan in Moscou" volume 1 has disappeared almost before having been published 3/ The two Testament releases are out of stock from Amazon; and 4/ the Audite CDs have also too a large extent disappeared from sight.
What does it mean? It means that these respected CD companies, which have painfully (and probably dearly) bought the rights to these rare performances have built very small inventories...and are now totally naked in front of the demand...I tell you this is worse than getting a LEGO Star Wars box for my ten-year old kid before December 24...so try non-UK and non-US sites. I know amazon.fr still has a couple of Testament CDs, HMV in Japan also. Try also jpc in Germany and the German amazon site as well...you may be lucky...but shame on all these companies unable to keep with the demand! Cheers to all JH

Dear JH,
What a coincidence, I've recently returned home from work and found that my 'Karajan in Moscow' CD had arrived - followed your guidance to Amazon.fr and your kind explanation of the French message that it was delayed rather than not available was helpful.
I ordered volume 2 and I'm on the 4th movement of the Brandenburg Concerto no.1 - Shostakovich 10 has not started up yet. A great warm up piece. I think I'm gonna enjoy this CD!
On the CD booklet it shows volumes 1 & 3 (mine's 2) and I was going to post a question as to what's on these other 2 discs. Shame they may not be available. I got the two Testament CDs from MDT in the UK.
I share your frustrations!!
Stuart

As usual Stuart, we have to thank our Japanese friends for the contents of volume 1 and 3.
Volume 1 is an all-Beethoven program: Coriolan overture + Symphonies 5&6.
Volume 3 is Mozart's Divertimento #17 and R Strauss's Heldenleben...

Dear JH
Thanks for listing the track-list of vols 1 & 3. I've got an earlier set that contains LvB's 6th symphony and Ein Heldenleben, so I guess it's not really worth getting them from Japan.
Regards
Stuart

Dear all
I strongly recommend the CD of Bach Brandenburg Concerto 1 and Shostakovich 10 on Melodya recorded 29th May 1969.
What a concert! And as JH says, probably the concert where the famous 'photo of the composer and Hvk was taken.
I wish I could've been there (although as an eight year old I'm not sure I'd have appreciated it totally!).
Stuart

I strongly recommend the CD of Bach Brandenburg Concerto 1 and Shostakovich 10 on Melodya recorded 29th May 1969. Wonderful! I'm waiting for the disc.. ********************** These my thoughts not for controversy but for my love for Music and musicians who are free in their rigor as Herbert von Karajan: I would listen to all Brandenburgische Konzerte conducted by Herbert von Karajan to some very cultured and passionate supporters of philological approach very convinced of goodness that its subject taught, so they probably understand that the Maestro Karajan was capable of conducting correctly early music! We know how much he loved J. S. Bach music and we know how much he insisted to conduct S. Mattaus Passion immediately after the war, and we also know how he performed the Große Masse by Bach.. Rosy

..I try to explain better what I wrote in my post above: I am not opposed to the philology but its excesses, I'm also convinced that when they argue that Herbert von Karajan not properly conducted the Baroque music, they don't want to release too rigid patterns that are bad for music. I recently had occasion to meet with experts of philology in music and I have notice as they lose the beauty of music because of a form of reasoning that I don't feel fully share. I don't want to begin a discourse on a complex topic because I haven't enough competence to do this, I just like to know members opinion because currently there are guidelines that are likely to frustrate efforts of great minds and great talents that have made significant contributions in music. With profound sadness I've discovered that these people that represent the future in music doesn't have the curiosity to know truly a great personality and they are often full of prejudices that don't leave any space for reflection.. ************************ Sorry, I went totally off-topic, but is there some forum member who is agree with my thoughts? Thank you very much Rosy
