Now my memories goes 1988 on the ocassion of the 80thAniversary of the Maestro. Really the Festival didn't fulfill the expectations from me, a Tosca without a real Tosca and Cavaradossi, Fiamma Izzo D'Amico and Luis Lima was not impressive. A good Brhams's Requiem with Cuberli and van Dam with a Singverein in his best. For me the most impressive was to have the opportunity to hear and to see Karajan conducting the Strauss' Alpen Symphony, though his age he was able to dominate the score in a, for me, phantastic way.
Of course the very nice moment was, with Karajan seated in big chair on the stage, was congratulated by all of us singing "Happy birthday" to him conducted by Toru Yasunaga, the leader of HPh.
Authorities, and reperesentatives from Wiener Opera, W.Philarm, Sigverein, were presenting souvenirs to Karajan who was see very emotional and happy in his thanks speach. Great Memory.
