Well, I've purchased another one of those EMI 2-disc sets (5860672) with the Master's superb rendition of Schubert's symphonies 1 through 4, the ballet music from Rosamunde, and Weber's stirring overture to Der Freischutz. Sadly, four years are provided (1977, 1978, 1980, 1981) as recording dates, but no indication of which was when. Any suggestions? Many thanks!

It occurs to me that I should have given this post a different name, as it appears to be a duplication of an earlier post on a similar subject. Oh, well, too late now.

Very many thanks, Alexander! This certainly helps tremendously, and quite satisfactorily explains the profusion of dates, which, I must confess, somewhat bewildered me. That 2-disc set with the Bruckner is on my 'to purchase' list. Zena

This has certainly come to pass; I've just returned from a day going round the shops, where one finds exactly the same mediocrities in all of them, only with different labels and prices.

Sometimes Karajan was a great prophet, wasn't he?  I completely agree! However, the record companies are often stingy to write information about places, dates etc.. or they write it in an invisible corner! ********************** Rosy |

Yes, he appears to have been one of those unusual persons gifted with the ability to sense the wide sweep of society's inclinations, long before they are generally discernible, and to have had the force of character to make use of the knowledge in a constructive fashion. Rare combination.

Unfortunately, I am one of those eccentric persons who is uneasy unless they know precisely when and where, so this reticence gives me the pip to no small extent!
