Back in the late seventies I purchased an excellent LP entitled Marsch! containing a good selection of traditional German and Austrian Militarmarsches (but omitting, strangely, the Radetzky-Marsch) directed by the Master. Was this ever released on CD?

Yes - 2 CDs. And don't forget his national anthems.

Many thanks, tjh! The LP was by Deutsche Grammophone; presumably these CDs are the same label? Same title? Must find this, and yes, the national anthems were beautifully executed. I suppose the rarest one is the national anthem of Cuba, directed by v. Karajan in Habana in 1949 at the opening of a concert there. There was a live recording (on 78) from a Cuban radio chain. Quite rare now, of course.

Grazie mille, Rosy! It appears to be a slightly different collection (this one does include the Radetzky-Marsch) but it is very interesting, nonetheless, and I am going to put an order together - no use just ordering the one. Guess I may as well order the anthems, too!
