Accordingto Richard Osborne the New Year video is a compilation of concerts from 12/30/86 - 1/1/87. However, the Sony version only lists the date as 1/1/87.
Any clarification appreciated.

Richard Osborne is right. You know, there is a negligence of the producing firms that often results in all kind of dating mistakes. Sometimes they quote even a different orchestra or a different year for some performances. The Concert Register of John Hunt is therefore a very good guide. Unfortunately, I don't own an original copy of this book...
With kind regards, Catalin

Thank you Catalin and Alexander for stating that the New Year's concert video is indeed not from a single concert. I gather that there are 3 concerts of the same program: 12/30/86, 12/31/86, and 1/1/87.

The years day concert ON 1/1/87 was broadcast live on UK TV and around the world.
All of the Telemondial 'live' Karajan concerts are recorded direct from the TV concerts of that time.
From memory most of the 1987 DVD looks like the original New Years Day concert however I would not put it past the engineers to have slipped in part of one of the other 2 concerts, although it is unlikely that all 3 concerts where filmed due to cost etc unfortunately I can't check this against the video I made in 1987 because as I have said previously I chucked it away.
Best regards
John
