Hi Alexander
I hope that you are well.
I must say that your comparative review of the recordings of Rigoletto is quite magisterial and has put me to shame since the only recording that I have of this great work is indeed the Callas/Gobbi/Serafin on EMI ! It's not my most favourite opera I have to admit, but do enjoy it now and again, especially the final act with that supreme quartet - could any other composer write such amazing music, at the same time melodious and dramatically tense ? A pity that your favoured version has such poor sound. I'm sure that you know this, but HvK conducted this piece pre-war and I so wish that he was able to do the piece again as it seems most especially suited to his dramatic gifts. Nevermind....
With best regards, Lee
