For those forum members who are based in the UK and have access to the television channel Sky Arts 2, you may be interested to know that there are three programmes scheduled this Friday featuring Karajan. The first, Inside Karajan, I'm afraid I do not know, but the second is "Maestro for the Screen" which has been mentioned elsewhere in the forum , which is followed by a concert with the Berlin PO. I'm afraid those are all the details that I have, but it may be worth tuning in.
With best regards to all,

If the BPO concert to be shown is the one in Los Angeles this past Tuesday, beware of horn mistakes in the Brahms 2 beginning! (I was there).
At least it was good to see Andreas Blau, Christhard Gossling, and Neithard Resa, among the remaining from the K era.
(The VPO Bruckner 9 in LA earlier this year also had a horn mistake, in the beginning)

Hi TJH212
No, the concert broadcast was the fairly ubiquitous Rachmaninov 2nd with Weissenberg and Karajan; since I'm familiar with this, the Rattle Brahms II would on this occasion have been more than welcome.
That said, the documentary was very interesting, not least since I haven't seen it before and (to the best of my knowledge) has not been released on DVD. It was made by a certain Otto Schwarz, probably within the last 5 years, probably with 2008 in mind. It was most interesting, if a little corny at times, focusing mainly on Karajan the man, rather than the musician, with interviews of many of Karajan's household (his chauffeur and butler, for example), interspersed with much footage of what looked like home videos (Karajan playing the piano at a family party for example). Much of it was accompanied by some rather cheesy pop music (bizarrely), but it's well worth seeing as there's much on it that I've never seen before. Now all I need to do is work out how to save it onto a DVD-R !
With best regards to all,
Lee

Of course - and anyone else who is interested !
I have a new DVD player, which for some reason i cannot seem to route the satellite tv through, hence at present I am not able to record from it. I'm sure I can, it's just that I don't know how !! However, I now have an incentive to find out !

Hi Lee and everyone The Sky programme's Lee mentioned previously, Karajan for the Screen and Inside Karajan are being repeated over the next week in the UK on Sky Arts 2. Also, the DVD previously issued only in Japan of the BPO/Karajan 1957 Concert tour is being released on the Dynamic label in Italy, www.dynamic.itFurthermore, if anyone subscribes to Gramophone magazine there is a section this month on page 24 about Karajan's recording on DG of Parsifal, it's based upon a Judge and jury situation whereby readers can vote online for or against the critics views on the recording, no prises for how I'm going to vote. Go to www. Gramophone.co.uk John
