On the Centenary page of my web site you will probably have seen that there are three language versions of the book "Herbert von Karajan. A Life in Pictures". In September 2007 I was contacted by the publisher, Pierre-Henri Verlhac, asking permission to use four images from the site and I sent him high definition scans of the items.
I am looking forward to receiving my complimentary copy but I am curious to know if there is an acknowledgement of the web site in the book. Has anyone looked at a copy?

I have now received my copy of the book from the publisher, Pierre-Henri Verlhac. He has sent me a French edition but as it is primarily a book of photographs the language is not really a problem.
It is a heavyweight, well presented volume on good quality paper with the official Karajan 2008 logo appearing on the rear of the dust jacket.
The majority of the photographs are by Siegfried Lauterwasser so some of the images will be familiar to many Karajan aficionados. Erich Lessing is also credited, but only with six photographs so his forthcoming book should still be of interest.
There is an essay by Jurgen Otten and a foreword by Anne-Sophie Mutter but, as I mentioned earlier, the text is in French, which bars me from commenting on it.
On a personal note unfortunately the web site is not mentioned because, for reasons of copyright, the images I provided are quite rightly described as “rights reserved”. However, I was very pleased to see my name acknowledged at the back of the book!

This book does have some errors in the picture captions and I know that John Hunt, Karajan's discographer, has pointed this out to the publisher.
As you say, the picture on page 51 is clearly not the Vienna Musikverein and as the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra never recorded in Abbey Road studios, I think the photographs on pages 54-55 are of Karajan with the Philharmonia Orchestra.
The other errors that John has pointed out are:
Page 78 “Boris Godunov” was performed at the Summer Festival not the Easter Festival Page 79 The photograph was taken in Leningrad (1969?) Pages 86-87 The photographs were not taken at the “La Boheme” film sessions (My guess is that they were taken during the filming of the Schumann 4th Symphony) Page 123 “Aida” was performed in 1979 not 1970 Page 161 The photograph is taken with Christian Thielemann (“Parsifal” rehearsals?)

As you say, there are too much mistakes in the phrases under the photos! Especially when the photographic image is a documentation with respect to the written word.
Apart from, the book interests me a lot.
Waldstein, please, did you bougth the book over the "internet" or in the bookstore?
Would you like give to me this information ?
Thank you
Rosy

The mistakes are many more than I thought... Pity. I think the photograph on page 175 is incorrectly dated as well. I am sure this was taken at the 1978 New Year's Eve concert, not in 1985 as stated in the book.

Another very strange picture was of Karajan in a hall which was supposed to be Musikverein's Golden Hall but it doesn't look like this legendary place at all. Waldstein I have just received my copy of the Erich Lessing book and that particular picture is included. It is the Kunsthaus in Lucerne in 1957.

I hesitated to buy the book by Pierre-Henry Verlhac, because I was sure it was dutifully correct and reprinted. It's not just sell a book with so many mistakes, not proper sell caskets CDs with different content by its cover!
God money!

Thank you, John! Most of the photos you have submitted, I had not ever seen it! On 30 April, will my copy of the book (I hope!). Instead, the delivery of Erich Lessing book has longest (sigh!). Even in the Elliette's book, translate into italian, the pictures are almost all in black and white, but they are beautiful, as i wrote in my post, which deal with this book. °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°Rosy ..............continue............

....I believe that karajan would have been a good actor, we can see when he is resposible for directing his sets. Sometimes the photos depict situations exhilarating!! I like very much the last two photos, especially the last: he seems to want embrace all and he seem....."as an eagle flying high in the sky...".

Finally I have also my copy of Pierre-Henri Verlhac book! Several photos are known, however, with the excellent quality of printing are a beautiful effect. With the wide range of errors, I'm ahead, because I can avail of our corrections! However, I'm pleased and espect Erich Lessing book to make another "photos indigestion"! *******************************************************************************Rosy
