Hello First posting by a newbie, so please be gentle with me!
I have a programme for a concert given at the Bayreuth Festival theatre in 1950, with Karajan conducting the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in Bruckner`s 8th symphony and excerpts from Lohengrin (with Hans Hopf as soloist). Is this of interest to collectors?
Secondly, I have a vague memory of a telecast being advertised in the very early 1980s of Parsifal from the Salzburg Festival. I also have a memory of there being a technical disaster which meant the broadcast was abandoned and replaced by a playing of the DG recording - I remember there being a complaining letter in the Radio Times from someone saying that was of no interest as they had the LPs, and this has curiously lodged in the mind. Am I imagining things, or was there indeed a telecast scheduled and what happened to it? thanks

I am sorry you haven't had a reply before this. I had been hoping that someone who knew about Karajan programmes would answer your first question. My guess about the programmes is that they would be of interest but not of much value. On www.karajan.co.uk in the "wants" section there are a few programmes for sale. They have all been there for months, suggesting that people are not willing to pay for them. Radio 3 broadcast a recording of the 1980 Salzburg "Parsifal". It was broadcast complete, with no technical failures. Austrian Radio also recorded the 1981 Salzburg "Parsifal". As far as I am aware, Radio 3 did not attempt to broadcast it. At that time, Radio 3 still used to broadcast commercial recordings of operas. I think that they may have broadcast the DGG "Parsifal", but this was scheduled, not a replacement for a live broadcast. I wonder if it was a Royal Opera House or ENO production of "Parsifal" that was replaced by a studio recording?

Hello charlesb
I am actually interested in purchasing this programme which I assume is from 28th May 1950 and I have tried to make contact but, unfortunately , hjsimpson has not replied to my emails or personal message through the Forum.
Best wishes
