Hi Waldstein, Not that it matters much, but that cycle was already available in one box back then when the recordings first came out: www.amazon.de/Sinfonien-1-4-Gesamtaufnahme-Karajan/dp/B000001GAVYou are definitely correct in that this new release contains the DDD recordings. The track details on the DG website confirm this. I haven't heard this release but I agree these recordings don't need remastering. The early 80s DDD recordings often sounded really harsh, glaring, and compacted, but by the mid-80s, they had figured that out and most of the Karajan recordings from the mid-80s on actually sound quite good. They are generally still a little too manipulated and glossified because that was just the sound "esthetic" they had developed for Karajan recordings, so I am glad there are more and more releases of live recordings now, e.g. on Testament - while many of those live radio recordings are not necessarily technically "better", they are usually much less manipulated and manicured, so no matter how good the sound is from a technical point of view, it is often a more realistic representation of what that sounded like live.
