The monthly music magazine called "CD Review" which is published by "Ongaku no tomo sha corp." in Japan has a special article on Karajan. Its recent February issue has a three-page article "Karajan's portrait" written by Mr. Nobuyasu Matsuoka. According to the stories, Karajan was MORE famous than Beethoven to ordinary people in 1970's (this may be a kind of exaggeration) and has a tons of recordings which were best-sellers in Japan. Among them, I think the following is the most important point for Karajan in our time. Namely, he is the pioneer for both the regenerating media and visualization of musical performances.

Thank you for this information mahalo.
It is always interesting to hear about what is going on in Japan for Karajan 2008. You seem to be particularly fortunate there, compared to here in Europe, with your DVD releases!

Linda,
Thank you very much for your reply. Yes, we in Japan have a DVD called "Live in Osaka 1984" which features Mozart Div.15, "Don Juan" and "Pini di Roma". I already bought it and enjoyed its contents.
I will keep you informed of events and news in Japan.
Regards,

Yes, we in Japan have a DVD called "Live in Osaka 1984" which features Mozart Div.15, "Don Juan" and "Pini di Roma". I have just ordered that DVD from Japan. It is a recording that I have wanted since 1993 when Sony abandoned their plans to release it on Laserdisc in Europe. I have a poor quality DVD recording of the Japanese television broadcast of the concert and the "Don Juan" is a stunning performance. It will be wonderful to see it with top quality picture and sound.

It is good news! I who already own the DVD am sure that the quality of the picture and sound is pretty good although it may not be the top. And please look it carefully at the end of the performance of "Pini di Roma". Karajan was smiling then as if he were very pleased with it.
Enjoy it when you receive it!

Excellent performances and yes, as you can see from this screen shot from the DVD, he does look very pleased!
