As you will have probably seen from my web site I have contacted both the Austrian and German Postal Authorities about the Karajan Centenary in April 2008. I am very disappointed that neither country is issuing a commemorative stamp to mark the occasion. I know that the Austrians issued a stamp in 2005 for the 10th Anniversary of the Karajan Centrum in Vienna, but it seems incredible that they are not marking his 100th Birthday! In 1983 Salzburg issued a special cancellation for his 75th birthday: but I have been told that nothing is planned for 2008.

Not to my personal taste but São Tomé e Príncipe, an island nation in the Gulf of Guinea, have issued the following Miniature Sheet: Details are on the Centenary page of my website. Linda

Dear Linda,
Among the many illustrious absences that make us sad , I'm glad that you have thought to give us the good news. That country has been able to honour, so worthy, the memory of Great Maestro!

Thank you
