I wonder if anyone can help. I have the classic three CD box set of the second Viennese school that I bought more than 20 years ago.
I was wondering whether any of the subsequent reissues have been remastered and have better sound quality.
I'm aware of the 'Originals' single releases and the more recent '3 Classic Albums' box set. Are there any other releases of these recordings?
Given that I bought the set 20 years ago, I'd like to upgrade on sound quality, if possible.
Thanks
Stuart.

Thanks Charles. I guess I'll wait and see if the new Japanese issues are remasters.

If you have the equipment to play SACDs, Esoteric in Japan have released the recordings. The SACDs turn up regularly on Ebay but they are very expensive ($299 or £190 for the 4 SACD set).

@esoteric Japan: this company used as the basis of their "mix" a usual CD, this company has no access to the original master tapes! The sound of these creations will be pushed up by calculation. I think this gimmick for very esoteric...
With the Japanese editions there are the following problems:
SHM-CD Box UCCG-9822/4: not all titles Original-Image Bit-Processing!!!
SHM-CD UCCG-4909: OIBP SHM-CD UCCG-4912: OIBP SHM-CD UCCG-90377: no OIBP !!!
So far, these recordings are remastered uniform only in the 70s-Karajan-Box
The blu-spec CD release date: "Discontinues Items Deleted"
I can not understand why these recordings is offered not as demanding SACD box.

I don't know what the source of Philharmonie's information is. According to the Esoteric website on the Schoenberg/Karajan: "The master tapes were newly mixed down to a 96kHz / 24 bit stereo master for this SA-CD project, and transfered to JVC mastering studio for the final DSD mastering.". Esoteric says they had the original master tapes, what is the source of Philharmonie's information?
I haven't heard the Esoteric SACDs. They would have to be very special to be worth the prices that are being charged on Ebay or Amazon.com.

Esoteric never gets an original master tape from Deutsche Grammophon or EMI - now Warner - for further processing. They have a license of a master tape copy on an optical disk. So you must copy these data again to make any changes to the balance or dynamics. This is not the same operation as the direct scanning and simultaneous mixing from the master tape. Digital copies can be theoretically forever without loss, but any reputable engineer attracts these truly esoteric procedure a gentle smile on his lips. If you are interested: I like to sell my Esoteric EMI Bruckner 4 & 7, EMI Bartok and Dvorak DECCA at the price of a new Bladen Jacket

Everywhere ignorants at Deutsche Grammophon...

Here's the proof: these photos are taken from the text accompanying the Esoteric SACD: definitely no tape machine, it is their own players and esoteric special cables. The data read from the master disc are then modified in the computer. So nothing for purists! Granted, these things sound seductive ...
