Sony Japan have issued 7 Blu Ray discs from their DVD series.
1987 New Year's Day concert from Vienna
1988 New Year's Eve concert from Berlin(Kissin)
1984 Osaka concert
1983 All Soul's Concert Berlin Strauss Alpine Symphony
1985 All Soul's Concert Berlin Beethoven 9
1982 Berlin Beethoven Eroica
1986 Berlin Beethoven 9 with Cuberli.
I already have seen the first 5 listed.
Overall improvement - Yes - picture somewhat better - Sound - a massive improvement.
Anyone who already has the DVD's need not rush to order them, I imagine they will be also be issued in the West.
Hopefully this is the start of an upgrade to BD of all of Sony's DVD series.
I would think that the Opera's from that series - 1982 Falstaff - 1986 Don Carlo - 1983 Rosenkavalier and the 1987 Don Giovanni will benefit much more on BluRay as so much more of the original videotapes will be transferred to the Discs. DVD had a maximum capacity of 8.5 GB whereas these BDs are all 25GB.
I wound up the end of the Pines of Rome from the Osaka concert on my amplifier - the sound almost blew me out of the room. Outstanding!
