I happened to know the following 3 CDs will be released on Apr.5th, 2008. The first one is released OFFICIALLY for the first time. I am afraid that these may be Japanese issues only. However, I am introducing them for whom it may concern. 1.Live in Suntory Hall May.5,1988Mozart Symphony No.39, Brahms Symphony No.1 www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/2691180This has been once released on a private CD-R. Officially, it has never been available. Karajan performed two concerts in Suntory Hall/Tokyo in 1988. Among the audience, the famous contemporary composer Toru Takemitsu who was moved deeply by the performance and wrote a comment on his wonderful experience then. I once posted an article on my blog (Sorry, Japanese ONLY) blogs.yahoo.co.jp/mahalo04/27262528.htmlThe rest two are reissues. 2.Live in Fumon-kan Oct.21,1979 Beethoven Symphony No.9www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/1955898The following is my blog article on the CD. blogs.yahoo.co.jp/mahalo04/7366191.html3.Live in Hibiya-kokaido Apr.21,1954 Tchaikovsky Symphony No.6www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/837046Karajan visited Japan in 1954 for the first time. He conducted NHK Symphony Orchestra (neither BPO nor VPO) then. My blog entry: blogs.yahoo.co.jp/mahalo04/53351706.htmlIt is my extreme pleasure to introduce these special live recordings.

Universal Music Japan announces that Karajan's last concert in Japan on May 5th,1988 (Mozart No.39 & Brahms No.1) is now under "Release is undecided" (changed from Apr 5th,2008). www.universal-music.co.jp/classics/release/hen2007.htmlVery disappointing news. I wish it will be released later someday.

Hello Mahalo, from what I can see the "last concert" is still available on hmv with still a firm release date. However, I have not seen any trace of the Mozart/Tchaikovsky one from May 1988. Thanks for researching all these new recordings, it's very exciting!

Hello jhgaulard,
Thank you very much for your concern.
Just information. I have no photo, but I found that a branch shop of Tower Records Japan had a notice board that the live CD was "Release is Undecided" as well as Universal Music Japan's announcement.

Thanks mahalo!
your indications are valuable. Consulting your blog, I found several engravings by Herbert von Karajan very interesting. Today is arrived the CD Karajan-Gould, Beethoven concerto for piano and Orchestra No.3 and Sibelius Symphony No.5*: very beautiful! As I wrote many time, I appreciate in particular the engravings of the 50's and 60's (if possible live); Karajan is extremely precise, fluid, clear. I believe that the engravings of those years, allow us to understand and appreciate more the "path" musical the following year.
*= I was deeply impressed the atmosphere. Usually I prefer listening to Sibelius in the Theatre. This interpretation gave me emotions comparable to performance in the concert hall!

I'm really remained enchanted by the two executions. The yield sound is excellent. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *I ramble even today! I wanted to say that the CD Mozart No.39- Brahms No.1 interests me because represents the latest reading of the Maestro; will be a great pleasure comparison with the more ancient interpretations. Rosy,
Thank you for your reply. Yes, the last concert in Japan is extremely exciting. Especially, Brahms No.1's performance is what we call "Karajan showed his naked emotion as possible". Technically, it is not always perfect. However, we can feel what Karajan imagined this piece. His roans can be heard sometimes all over the CD.
