Thank you for your story. I can confirm the set lists in May8/9,1983 at the following URL: www.karajan.org/jart/prj3/karajan/main.jart?content-id=1188466703960&rel=en&reserve-mode=active&j-db-find=sofia&werk-bereich=konz&jahr=1983In addition, I was very moved by the story which your uncle met. I can recall that a similar happening once occurred in Japan. It was 1973. A female cellist at Sophia University in Tokyo visited a rehearsal by Karajan and BPO and asked Karajan something then. She was disturbed by his manager, but Karajan told him to write down her name. Later she could meet Karajan and asked him to conduct her orchestra. Late October, Karajan came to Sophia University and conducted the orchestra. The program was Beethoven's Symphony 9th. This was NOT a fantasy. It really happened. The situation was broadcasted via TV all over Japan. The picture still remains. In 1979, Karajan was given a honorary doctorate by Waseda University. Then Karajan made a rehearsal with its student orchestra (Program: R.Strauss's "Till Eulenspiegel"). This is not a happening but a formal event then.
